Thomas Kolesinskas of Custom Tied Flies has taken over the lease for salmon and trout fishing on Edradynate Estate.
Edradynate and Upper Grandtully water set against the splendid backdrop of the Strathtay Hills is one of the best known beats on the Upper Tay. Just over 3 miles in length and with six named pools of which the Church Pool is the best known and probably one the most productive on the Aberfeldy to Strathtay stretch.
Fish can be expected at any time of the year.
The beat holds Spring salmon right from the start of the season. During early Spring (January to February) the beat fishes best with lower river levels. In Summer the grilse arrive, often bars of silver straight from the sea. With Autumn spates fish continue to push up from the lower river to their spawning grounds. The river is mostly easily covered from the bank or by wading but a boat and ghillie is required to reach some of the more awkward but really fishy places.
The beat contains a mixture of strong flowing pools and some faster streams. Both fly and spinner are probably required to get the best out of the beat, especially with higher water, but there are some excellent runs for the fly. The legendary Church Pool is a long deep holding pool and has been famed for producing monsters.
The beat has a fishing hut and Thomas is available to offer tuition in both the single and double handed rod.

During this time he has worked with leading companies: Patagonia, Columbia, Hardy & Greys, Partridge, Pure Fishing, LTS rod, Scott Mackenzie, Simms, Snowbee etc. In 2003 he was involved in building Lithuanian, Latvian and East European markets and in 2006 opened the biggest fishing/outdoor store within the Baltic States.
Thomas and his family moved to Scotland in 2010 from Lithuania taking up a post at Fly Fishing and Fly Tying magazine. Thomas will be taking the SGAIC casting qualification in the double handed rod in March.
